Graduation Speech

He said he was reading his speech,
Because it was really quite long.
He wanted to be sure he left nothing out,
And that he didn’t get anything wrong.

He owed his wonderful mother
For all the success that he’d had.
She raised their whole family
Without the help of a dad.

His mother was still beautiful,
Even after raising three boys.
Encouraging him to excel
Had been one of her greatest joys.

He looked out at the audience,
An embarrassed look on his face.
Everyone in the crowd could tell
He had completely lost his place.

He said, “I can’t see very well
Because of this awful lighting,
Besides, It’s not very easy
Reading my mother’s handwriting!”
