The Traveling Saleman

Burt and Pete were on a sales trip
When their old car had broken down.
They were way out in the boondocks,
Not close to any kind of town.

They walked to a well-kept farmhouse
Near the place where they were stranded.
You’ll have to sleep out in the barn,
The young widow had demanded.

Well about midnight Pete snuck out,
A little visit wouldn’t hurt.
But, just to be on the safe side,
He’d tell the widow he was Burt.

Then nine months later Burt told Pete,
“A lawyer called, it’s kind of funny.
You know that widow where we stayed?
She died and left me all her money!”
