The Groom’s Excuse

The guests were already seated;
The wedding to begin at eight.
But the groom was yet to arrive,
All the party could do was wait.

The mother was wiping her tears.
The father had turned red with rage,
“If he’s to be my son-in-law
He’s gotta start acting his age.”

The groom came limping up the walk,
His tux in a terrible state.
He looked to be in awful pain,
And now he was an hour late!

The father lost complete control,
As the groom came stumbling in.
He shouted at the hurting man,
Demanding just where he had been.

The groom in pain, said he’d been mugged.
As the bride pinned on his flower.
The father yelled, “So you were mugged?
Why should mugging take an hour?”
