It’s the way I make my living
Calling people on the phone.
I could hear a lot of voices
So she wasn’t home alone.

She was speaking in a whisper.
I could barely hear her voice.
So I asked for either parent
Leaving her to make the choice.

She said, “Both my folks are busy.
‘Cause they’re talking to the cops.
Wow! A helicopter’s landing.
Can you hear the woofs and whaps?”

She whispered, “Isn’t this the best?
I just knew it would be fun!
There are crowds of people outside
‘Cause they’re searching for someone.”

She whispered, “Go turn on the news
You can watch it on TV.”
“Who are they searching for?” I yelled!
In a whisper she said, “Me!”
