A Very Thoughtful Husband

Bob decided to retire
To spend more time with his wife,
To bring a little joy into
Her otherwise mundane life.

He first noticed her housekeeping,
How its quality had declined.
To guide her through this trying time,
A husband must be firm but kind.

He suggested she take a job,
To get finances back on par.
He sacrificed and took the truck
So she could use her mom’s old car.

He tried to get home from fishing
The same time she got home from work.
She knew how hungry he would be
But he was not an unkind jerk.

He told her just to take her time,
Not to cook ‘til she was able,
And just to come and wake him up
When she got dinner on the table.

He also said to take her time
About cleaning up the dishes,
Until after she had vacuumed
And done other chores, if she wishes.

When he’d had a good day fishing,
He liked the joy on his wife’s face
When he said she could clean the fish
At her own leisurely slow pace.

The obituary column
Spoke of Bob’s sudden demise;
The death of such a loving husband
Was to everyone’s surprise.

And as for Bob’s wife’s murder trial,
Bob’s friends have all admitted
They were a little bit surprised
How quickly she had been acquitted!
