It was first game of the season,
There was excitement in the air.
One team had much bigger players,
It didn’t seem to be quite fair.

I asked a lad from the small team
If he had kept up with the score.
He said his home team had zero,
The other team had 24.

“Just try not to be discouraged,”
I advised from behind the net.
“Just why should I be discouraged?
We haven’t even batted yet!”

We had a fight with a powder puff
My sister Jennie and me.
When you fight with a powder puff
It’s hard for you to see.

You twirl around in powdery clouds
That smell so much like Mother.
I told Jennie, “This will teach you
Not to tease your brother!”

Now just where did our mom come from?
She grabbed me and said, “Mister,
How many times must I tell you,
Don’t powder puff your sister?”

I said, “But Mom, she’s such a pill,
And when you do your face you say,
‘If you cover things with powder
It will make them go away.’”

My computer stopped working
And I don’t know what to do!
If I call up tech support,
Will they send around a crew?

They tend to treat us teachers
With such total disrespect
They’re also quick to question
Our computer intellect.

One of my brighter students,
Computer skills unabashed,
Just glanced at my computer
And said, “Your hard drive has crashed”.

But when I called Tech Support
They said, “Just how do you know?”
I replied with sarcasm,
“A young student told me so!”

In keeping with their habit,
Always putting teachers down
He said, “Oh, if that’s the case,
We’ll send someone right around.”

So it was taking him quite awhile.
I watched him as I drank my coffee,
What he was doing caused me to smile.

He kept bopping himself on the head,
So I asked him what that was about.
He said, “That’s what Daddy always does
When he wants to get the ketchup out!”

Every year she sent them presents
But never once received a thank you.
If she asked, they’d say, “I got it”,
Or, “Oh, I really thought you knew.”

So, last year she sent them money
But still she got not one response.
This year, instead she sent them checks,
Which quickly cured their nonchalance.

Knowing Grandma’s gifts were money,
They searched through the pile to find them.
Grandma would soon get Christmas calls,
When they saw she failed to sign them.
